Hindi has similar chat transliteration though we don't go as far as using numbers. The algorithm is to drop all schwa A's and some vowels where it is not ambiguous. Which ironically is similar to how Arabic script itself works

If something is a single letter in devanagari there is a desire to have it be a single letter in Latin. So ka, ki, ke all get shortened to k


In Greek we have greeklish, an annoyingly persisting habit in the age of UTF8 and auto-correcting keyboards. Gia xara se olous!


You know you're truly fluent in a second language when schemes like this, and even "text speak" are intelligible to you. I'm conversationally competent in a handful of languages but can only text with a teenager in one other than my native. Shit's hard.


I've always found Arabic script to be pretty beautiful, the shapes and the flow of the letters is really striking, especially with good calligraphy.
