I think I’ve heard three different comedians make a joke out of this saying if we just gave all the kids peanut butter the problem would eventually take care of itself.
But it’s not actually a joke.
I guess that’s the weird thing about jokes. They often get very close to something that is true but they come at it sideways, so it’s funny instead.
I believe he meant that people make jokes to cover/approach things they actually feel or fear. I recall when I first heard this that all of a sudden my friends were struggling with more things than they let on. She’s always joking about money. He’s always joking about his sexuality… uh oh.
