Discussion from 2021.

The logic seems to have later moved to https://github.com/exelban/stats/blob/master/Kit/plugins/Tel...

https://github.com/exelban/stats/issues/1310 has a newer 2023 discussion what requests are send are where. It's checking if a new version of the software exists, and what the IP address is and both features can be disabled.

It still does it. I just blocked it using LuLu.

This is from 2021.

It is disappointing that open-source software sends stats without informing users or asking for consent. That said, the user was an abusive entitled asshole, accusing (without proof) the developer of spying on users and saying things like:

> It's not your app. It's free software, you gave it away.

They deserved the block.

They also sent a pretty bad PR to remove the functionality, just leaving things empty and lingering. This is clearly not someone who cares to do things right, they only care about what they personally want.

This is the same person who tried to shove a DO_NOT_TRACK “standard” down every project’s throat and promptly gave up when maintainers questioned their motives and approach.
