A useful reminder that inside the bald statements about "Chyna" and "the CCP" there are complex, competing views. If you include unreconstructed Taiwanese kuomintang, and their view about chinese unification there are surprises in plenty for who supports whom.

Sailors who jumped ship, European Jewish refugees who came in from Dalian out of Japan held territory and stayed. I doubt they were trusted much but perhaps, like Norman Bethune (who is memorialised in the national museum in Tiananmen square) they became both trusted and valued?
