That maybe but.. M$ was going to give 18 Billion to OpenAI just to have a seat at the table. They no longer have to spend that 18 Billion and it will likely cost them far less to defend themselves against legal action. In addition they will essentially be acquiring the company for far less money than they would have to spend if it were actually for sale. Bean Counter Score 10 of 10 winner move.

Plus I do not think the OpenAI employees threaten to quit and go to M$ - they simply threatening to leave which is their legal right.

Worked at a company that did a CEO replacement - it did not go well - better than OpenAI but badly just the same. Their board was very naive - after OpenAI received an $80 Billion valuation most of the employees didn't really see Sam Altman leaving the building but that dream of owning a Testarossa stopped dancing in their heads.
