Whilst we should expect the national security apparatus of any serious nation to infiltrate or manipulate media organisations, it is nonetheless disquieting to see it revealed in stark terms by these email exchanges. We can see some evidence of Twitter pushing back on government demands, though this resistance is tactical and technical, rather than strategic and ethical. In the end, they bow to the inevitable and by and large end up towing the line. Good job these 3 letter agencies have democratic oversight, what a terrifying prospect it would be if we didn't have a vote once every 4 years
