Foldable mobile phones, now what's next?

Is the era of smartphone is reaching its edge? How smart can they be in the future? A fusion of biology and tech? On skin mobile phones? Rollable phones? I don't know, it makes me excited and so curious at the same time. What do you think?

Might have to put "Ask HN:" in front of your title.

There were two things I saw in the past that looked interesting: laser projected keyboards on a desk and projected interfaces on the skin (like a beam breaker). Those didn't seem to advance beyond a conceptual phase.

Not sure when Neuralynk will happen. I think it would be cool to be born with an AI symbiote. Sorry kind of deviating but a compute system tied to the user including phone/rf comms.

It seems like the compute could just be a brick and the interfaces vary. For example if you had conductive thread on your clothes in a grid pattern, that could be used a keyboard by varying resistance.

Yeah I think the main thing is the resolution, anything that's not a high density LCD will probably look bad.

Also if your body just emitted it's own "power field" and then the devices on your body used it that could be something. Haha your clothes adds physical resistance to your body to charge these devices so it helps keep you fit.

That all depends on how material science progresses. If metamaterials become commercially viable, we can have thin, translucent glass slabs for computers, phones, TVs, etc . Real-life hover-boards would be a likely outcome when room-temperature superconductors can be mass-produced .

> A fusion of biology and tech

Yes, many believe so.On skin mobile phones powered by body energy.

Or it could be dead end. Smartphones haven't change much in few years. Same form factor, same OS. It is boring.

I think bio fusion will come but the tech is not ready yet, maybe first some kind of AR glasses with eSIM???
