Curious if there are any good metric formulas that align a team well for fixing bugs (reducing total count) while not penalizing them for the reporting of 'old' bugs in a system. Looking to track a number for the health of the system and the performance of a team.
So for example, every bug before today considered 'old', with any new bug after being 'new'. New bugs create a penalty in the metric, while the rate of reduction of old bugs is what's to be optimized for while not disincentivize the reporting of 'old' bugs. Hope that makes sense. I have some rough ideas, but I'd like to hope there's some battle tested formulas out there...
Bad jokes aside, do you want bugs committed before a set date to be ignored in the calculation, or receive a lower weight?
