You gave no examples supporting your claims, though. What was your experience? What has broken on you in fundamental ways? When was that? What distribution were you using? Anecdotally, there is no shortage of examples of people formatting their windows installation which would corroborate to the idea that windows is not safe from fundamentally breaking on you.
