Reddit's Workaround for Vaccine Misinformation (theatlantic.com)

The amount of groupthink, propaganda and "boiling the frog" hacks around communication control in US is getting absolutely insane.

Reddit is a great example. Its front page now reliably has some story where people cheer on deaths of conservatives from Covid or muse on how wonderful it would be to deny healthcare based on political views. With tens of thousands of upvotes and thousands agreeable comments. The likes of The Atlantic egg the whole thing on.

Where do you think this will lead in a few years?

It will lead to idiocy, witch hunts and prosecutions. Nothing new actually.

As a liberal from outside the US I think I would vastly prefer to go on holiday in the reddest Hillbilly redneck village in what is advertised by detractors as a flyover state.

Something about outspoken "metropolitan" US liberals is extremely repellent, cannot put my finger on it, even if in principle they support the same policies I do. Reddit somehow personifies this a lot.

I though everything was dandy pretty much, but people complained about hate everywhere. I don't think that is improved, quite the contrary.

In the town of Edson, Alberta, a group of anti-vax folk held a covid party to acquire “natural immunity.” Now paediatric ICU patients are being displaced by people who deliberately infected themselves. Gosh, I wonder why people are so upset with the anti-vax crowd that they now wish for them to die. It’s a real mystery!

Get. Vaccinated.

I see no mention of paediatric ICU displacement in the above article or any other. Are you spreading misinformation or can you please back up your claim?

“Alberta’s hospital system, especially ICUs are under more killing stress than at any time in the provinces history,” the letter states

https://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/two-alberta-doct...

“We are within days of being forced to implement a triage protocol which will force health-care workers to make life and death decisions on who will get scarce resources, like ventilators.”

And there are people in nearby towns deliberately getting infected instead of vaccinated. My god.

“7 pediatric patients relocated from Stollery ICU for COVID-19 patients“

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/7-pediatric-patients...

“The move means patients and parents in the PICU will no longer have a private room equipped with a couch for parents to sleep on, among other amenities.”

Same thing is happening in other hospitals in Canada: people willfully unvaccinated are displacing sick children. Unconscionable!

I have been a daily reddit user for the last 10 years. The website has been going downhill with noticeable pushes to make it more "frequentable" and ad-friendly in 2016 and 2020. I am no antivaxxer but the actual negativity and hivemind are too much and made finally quit.

I understand the need of moderation but the guenuine hate and lynching is horrifying. Even more so when you know how young most users are.
