This is what happens when electricians treat cat5e/cat6 UTP like a fancy new fat POTS cable. I bet it's spliced together with these connectors too.

They didn't even do that. They double punched the RJ45 jacks. They used the proper Cat5e everywhere (cables, jacks, and punch blocks) but the wiring was done terrible enough that I can't really use it.
