What helix gives you is opinionated LSP support. With vim you first have to add some configuration and choose key bindings. I have used LSPs with vim before, but I wasn't sure which configuration makes the most sense. In addition, helix is optimized for discoverability: You get context menus for basic editing commands and LSP commands. This really helps with learning how to take advantage of the editor and the LSP features.
I'm currently discovering Helix because I'm creating an LSP. I had tried to do the work in Zed, but Zed requires compilation with each update. It's for the sake of sandboxing, but it slows everything down immensely.
> By contrast, ex situ methods involve the removal or displacement of materials, specimens, or processes for study, preservation, or modification in a controlled setting, often at the cost of contextual integrity.
Might as well use the correct words if you want to talk above people's heads.
First: No need to be rude, "in situ" is a very commonly used phrase among English speakers, as should be evident from the Wikipedia article [1] you yourself cited
Second: The normal Firefox translate feature replaces the text in the page with the translated text - retaining its styling, position, context w/ images, etc. The right click menu, does not. I described the right click menu as "not in situ" which is correct.
Having used whisper and noticed the useless quality due to their 30-second chunks, I would stay far away from software working on even a shorter duration.
The short duration effectively means that the transcription will start producing nonsense as soon as a sentence is cut up in the middle.
I like the idea of questioning status quo, but not so sure this makes a whole lot of sense in 2025.
Meerkartor was developed to project a 3D GLOBE onto a flat surface.
We already have non-meerkartor projections such as the classic globe that should be found in every class-room, and modern digital variations such as Google Earth.
And the meerkartor projections we do use:
In USA, the meerkartor projection centers on the USA.
In europe, the meerkartor projection centers on Europe.
And in asia, guess where the center is?
Why can't Africa just start using their own projection too, with their preferences?
Maybe in certain anti-intellectual crowds. But not here.
Reddit behavior shouldn't restrict you elsewhere.
