Just thinking about it gives me very strong anxiety. I had to sit next to my daughter, she's sleeping and breathing.

One of my childhood friend lost his little brother in a similar accident. 25 years later, I have a similar phobia of private swimming pools, ponds or any unsupervised water surface. I cannot see a private swimming pool and not think about him. He was a happy toddler, just like my kids today.

I receive mails from sudo incidents generated by my users, I check the boxes except the gray beard.

I shave, I try to keep my demeanor as gray as possible.

What about the red dress and flying reindeer?

I've seen it a few times and I still don't understand how we can allow such blatant conflict of interests at the management level...

It seems to me that from the university's standpoint, a company is considered a plus instead of corruption, i.e. have "real-world" impact, and perhaps the university will have a stake in the company as well (not sure about this). If so, it is a win-win situation for both the university management and the professor, only the student lose, and who cares about that little grad student?

Typically not a stake that I know of but a school like MIT makes a lot of money from technology licensing.

Is this where “tech transfer” comes in and the University gets a piece of the departing business or a perpetual licensing agreement?

Universities often benefit from it financially. There almost always is an agreement between the professor and the university.

Everyone makes money?

> The truth is I have never been hacked once in the eight years I have had this computer. And not since 2008 or 2009 with the one I had before.

How can you be that sure and are you confident to connect this computer to any random public network? That's just a demonstration of ignorance.

You should also quote the rest of the paragraph then:

> Maybe I have been hacked but simply have not noticed. That is also a possibility. But I store some crypto currency on my computer and I make crypto transactions from time to time. If my computer had been compromised by an invisible attacker I figure that attacker would have had an interest in crypto assets.

> 10/10 times in severe poverty, I’d save up for for the cheeseburger

I lived on 500€/month for several years with only a microwave oven, and if your BMI is between 20 and 25, you can just eat canned vegetables at 0.50€ half of the time and be healthy.

I can't eat green beans anymore though.

Personally, it was corn I got burnt out on, but canned foods were a lifesaver. Usually precooked too, can skip the microwave.

I'm not sure if I prefer a slow ftth deployment or the spaghetti cabling of hell from Bucharest streets. There must be a way to do it correctly...

Last I lived there (2015) it was very well organized and more reliable than most other infrastructure in Romania.
