Is this serious? Looking at this I feel both bored to death (think "Severance gray office hell" boredom) AND overwhelmed because of the tons of decorations and useless creases and crappy icons and awful text and unnecessary affordances that only made sense 30 years ago when no one knew how to use a computer. Ugh
I agree with the parent comment, but I understand that someone who did not grow up with UIs that looked like that would think otherwise. I do feel that Windows 2000 was peak UI for desktop operating systems, but it's probably due to a combination of nostalgia and the fact that I deeply dislike modern Electron-based UIs with too few decorations and an overly minimalistic and non-customizable "we know best" attitude.
It’s never possible for things to be good with people like you. It’s not 100% recycled, which would be better. But surely, this is better than 0% recycled??
Ironically, it's worse. I just wrote another comment about this. Recycled plastics carry more toxic load and shed more (and more fragmented) microplastics into the environment. Recycled plastics only win out on carbon emissions.
Moral of the story: plastic is just not good. Avoid buying things made out of ANY kind plastic if you are going to regularly wash and mechanically agitate them. You won't eliminate 100% of washed plastic in your life, but it's surprisingly easy to get rid of 80% of it without sacrificing quality of life.
That's good to know. My understanding though is that they don't use 100% recycled plastic to prevent that? I thought the ~20% non recycled plastic was kinda "stabilizing" the whole thing but maybe that's not true
But the MAGA cult will find yet another explanation that this man magically hurt the 4 ICE agents and they all ended up in a hospital somehow, or that carrying weapons with a permit is unacceptable if you vote democrat
> "Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene," DHS said. "The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement."
Were the mag dumping into the lifeless body also "protective shots"? Holy crap they're lying straight to your faces with video evidence against them. How come they can do this without consequence?
After reading the thread, pretty sure it’s “less”. The most common and fervent “disagreement” in that thread is “this should be investigated”. People who believe there’s any chance of that happening (without a regime change), have to be so embarrassingly naive that they could be tortured themselves and would still defend the torturers.
That is legitimately scary. That's narrative control tracked live. Any comment critical of 5 ice officers shooting one guy they gave disarmed and face down in the street were deleted by the mods. I can understand this for the last ICE shooting where it's possible the officer legitimately feared for his life. Not so for this shooting.
I'm divided on if the r/Conservative mods are deliberate foreign agitprop actors, Trump admin employees, or MAGA true believers.
It's two libbed up people talking with their fully steeped Trumpian parents, trying and failing to find common ground. Horrifyingly the parents recently said they would support Trump even if he ordered federal agents to kill everyone indiscriminately in a random mall in LA, and their adult kids were murdered as a result.
In 2016 I watched not only tax-exempt churches on the airwaves in MS campaigning for Trump but Trump appearing in an ad saying “I’ll make every dream you ever dreamed come true.” It was so blatant I actually filled out the complaint form to the IRS or FEC (I can’t remember which) all the way but didn’t send it.
This isn't really trump anymore. It's all project 2025/federalist society. They're enacting trump's revenge which happens to have some overlap with their own goals. It will likely continue after trump unless the spell is broken and there's a general strike and military coup.
You don't want to build your own components but you also don't want to use pre-made components? At some point you have to pick one. If you really want a midpoint, it's literally Radix: behaviours are done, stylings are up to you
If you do not know of a single Wikipedia article that you judge to be politically biased, then that says more about you and your gullibility than it does about me.
The point is not that Wikipedia is completely unbiased. That's an obvious impossibility - for any encyclopedia.
The point is that accusations of "noticeable bias on any topic that has political implications" is the kind of accusation made by someone simply trying to sow distrust in information, writ large. It's increasingly common.
BuzzFeed, Salon and PinkNews being used as reliable sources should be everything you need to know about WP.
Or read some of the more critical viewpoints against the Wikipedia editor bureaucracy (that shields itself with a laughable "Anybody can edit Wikipedia! We don't exist! Don't look at the man behind the curtain") like https://www.tracingwoodgrains.com/p/reliable-sources-how-wik...
Small aside, it's a fun coincidence I (finally!) saw Brazil for the first time a week ago...
Again, can you find articles using some of these "unreliable" sources (I don’t know Salon or PinkNews, and I know that BuzzFeed News actually had pretty good articles back then) to promote biased content?
Just looking at the front page of PinkNews, the content appears sourced and factual. A media being oriented (LGBT in this case) doesn’t necessarily mean it’s biased or lying. Taking this article as an example[1], I see no reason why it shouldn’t be used as a Wikipedia source.
Completely biased in language, which matters because the bias can and will be added verbatim to Wikipedia articles
The bias is that: how do you handle the fact that any man could claim to be a woman and be housed with women? Especially when the issue is compounded by those numbers on rape they're reporting? Do you build special quarters in every prison? For the 47 individuals in 50~70k detainees? Be realistic and have a more balanced view of the matter.
I think the "bias blindness" of WP is a weapon selectively applied to one side and should be removed in favour of sources that at least pretend neutrality. The problem is obviously that you almost have no source left, then; at least in the political/ideological domain.
> how do you handle the fact that any man could claim to be a woman and be housed with women?
Does it happen? What’s wrong with handling it on a case by case basis? Is "some men could lie" more important than "incarcerating trans females with men will get them raped"? I’m assuming real trans people can be detected pretty easily: do they look like the opposite gender? Are they on HRT (boobs on men and beard on women are pretty clear giveaways that they’re actually trans)? Did they present as the opposite gender before being incarcerated?
> Do you build special quarters in every prison? For the 47 individuals in 50~70k detainees?
I don’t know, what’s wrong with debating it? Is it that weird to think some population should get a different treatment if they’re wayyy more at risk of getting raped, or worse?
Sounds to me like "a bias towards humanity" is unacceptable
For example, look up Tremaine Carroll and Karen White. Both of them men who claimed to be women, were transferred to women's prisons based on policy that allows "gender identity" to override sex, then raped and sexually assaulted female prisoners who were locked up with them.
The whole reason we have sex-segregated prisons is to prevent imprisoned women from being subjected to male predation and violence. Letting men into women's prisons because these men claim to be women completely undermines this.
> I think everyone that's ever used GitHub actions has come to this conclusion
This is not even specific to GitHub Actions. The logic goes into the scripts, and the CI handles CI specific stuff (checkout, setup tooling, artifacts, cache...). No matter which CI you use, you're in for a bad time if you don't do this.
The little video seems really weird to me, the author is clearly trying to resize outside of the border?? I just tried it myself and the resize zone feels more than reasonable: https://imgur.com/iip8DIL there's like 5mm on each side of the actual border to grab and resize!
> Trump is a lot less powerful than John Gruber thinks
I genuinely wonder what it will take for people who think like you to understand the dangerous slope the world is on because of just Trump and his cult.
I didn't say the world isn't on a dangerous path - just that pushback against Trump's demands still works.
To make my political opinion more clear, the reason why Trump is able to do all this insane shit is because everyone in a position to tell him "No" has decided not to. Most of the political fights he wins are because he bribed or demoralized the other side into not showing up - not because he's winning on merit or power.
Meanwhile the actual voters - the people who matter - are way angrier at Trump than they were last term. Trump fucked up the Epstein files so badly the House had to pass a law to force him to follow his own god damned campaign promises. The MAGA coalition is falling apart. And on the other side, candidates that actually promise economic relief (as opposed to social justice[0] only) are doing quite well. If the DNC were to pull their heads out of their asses and stop trying to run extremely unpopular candidates on the basis of "well, they're not Trump" and "it's her time" they'd be winning bigly.
[0] To be clear, the problem is not social justice in a vacuum. It's the use of it to avoid having to talk about economic issues. Ever since Obama we've had a string of neoliberals that emphasize social issues to avoid having to talk about the economy, even though at least some of those issues are downstream of economic problems they don't want to touch.
