The level of negativity in these comments is surprising. We can certainly debate whether billionaires should exist at all, but given that they do, here’s one who’s putting his money towards advancing cutting edge science instead of buying a third mega yacht. I am strongly in favor.

Schmidt has done more damage than he ever will undo with his philanthropy.

And one yacht should be enough, especially if it is like this:

I agree with you. I clicked into this hoping to hear what new things we could learn or discover with the new observatories. Commenting on the more positive and informative side would be a better use of time and energy I think :)

Maybe not so surprising:

Cool, congrats on all the work you’ve put into this!

My laptop has stickers, one of which is a photo of my previous laptop and its stickers. One of those is a photo of the laptop before that…

That's how git commits work.

Current laptop stickers: current state.

Photo of the previous laptop: reference to previous commit.

I love this... I haven't had the courage to "spend" my sticker collection on my current laptop, as they obviously don't last forever. A solution could be to photograph the old cover, and print it as a full-size sticker as a starting point for the next laptop!

That's how my laptop home directory used to look. A subdirectory with a copy of the prior incarnation's home directory ad infinitum...

I am totally going to do this now. I always hate when I have to leave my old laptop stickers behind and this is such a neat way to keep them around.

Keep it going! I did that to my Facebook pfp (they also have stickers) - after a few years it became this abstract, glitchy work of art. I don’t use fb anymore but still remember that fondly

I didn't go that far, but I did take the back cover from my old (stickered) laptop and hang it on the wall.

Like my primary storage, with the old storage in a sub folder.

There's still a WP51 folder in there somewhere...

stickerception

Stickers all the way down.

This is cool!

Thanks! Do you have any thought how it can be used?

VIPER lives again!

Yes

That was made by Erik Wernquist, he's awesome. https://vimeo.com/erikwernquist

I agree, soon systems of agents will be trained with good engineering practices not just locally-good code. Already when I work with current SOTA agents I find myself basically pair programming with them, providing senior guidance and cutting off directions of development that will be dead ends while they type all the actual code.

(Hey fizx!)

The first orbital launch attempt from continental Europe, and the first of Europe’s batch of newspace commercial launch startups. I hope they figure out what happened and iterate quickly!

I think that should be "first commercial orbital launch attempt from continental Europe".

Commercial is required to exclude launches from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, orbital is required to exclude the Miura 1 attempt, Europe is required for obvious reasons & continental is required to exclude the LauncherOne attempt, and attempt is required for obvious reasons.

> & continental is required to exclude the LauncherOne attempt

Also to exclude a few hundred launches from French Guiana, which is politically part of France and the EU (but certainly not geographically in Europe).

If you want to get technical, Andoya is an island separated from continental Europe...

Also the biggest German rocket since V2.
