Hey, I'm Rob - a frontend engineer with over 15 years experience building for the web. While my core competency is frontend and the React ecosystem, I can navigate the full stack confidently and contribute to most any codebase. I've worked on products sitting atop PHP, C#/.NET, Python, Rails and Node.
The bulk of my experience is in startups (B2C, B2B & SaaS), though I am open to any organization that provides a strong culture fit. In my experience, culture and team dynamics far outways what is being built - or the tech that is being used. I am growth oriented and passionate about working collaboratively, cross-functionally, and making a meaningful impact in people's lives with what is built. I'm also unafraid of legacy code or tech debt.
Note: My current role and location is in St Thomas, USVI. After my last startup role, my family and I decided to try something new and see if life in the Virgin Islands could work for us. In short, it did not. My family is already in WA, and I am here finishing up my role as IT Coordinator. I will be joining my family in WA at the end of November.
I just recently tried out a 2019 Razer Blade 15", and I love it. Working with WSL in Windows 10 is very satisfying, or you can remove Windows and opt for Ubuntu or whatever Linux you prefer. The Razer Blade hardware and build quality is top-notch, and I can undersatnd why it was called the gamer's Macbook Pro.
I was introduced to the book "The Illuminatus Trilogy", by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson in High School and it turned out to be pretty impactful on how my worldview developed. It pushed me towards questioning things, as opposed to falling into some Conspiracy Theory rabbit-hole which the book could easily nudge you towards.
Yes I have definitely noticed the same sluggishness. Does anyone have any resources or recommendations for transitioning off of Gmail and onto another email provider?
I tested out the blood type diet for a few months. I am a type AB+ and I followed it very closely. I will say I slept better, had more sustained and balanced energy levels, and better focus. I also didn't get that faint, dizzy feeling if I couldn't eat right on schedule. I don't have any hard evidence for the diet, but my results were intriguing enough for me to think there is something to it. However, given what we know about placebo I wouldn't be surprised if I was just releasing everything I needed based on belief.
Very inspiring. My wife and I are in northern Chicago suburb of Highwood, and we really aspire to move out west to a more nature-centric style of living. I like how one of the core parameters to your search was Fiber optic internet, and then spread from there. Where did you start your search?
Before here, we looked at WK&T (Kentucky/Tennessee) http://wktelecom.coop/ That looked promising as well.
It was some work to even find these two networks, then finding homes within the service area and trying to find out if they were eligible was the next challenge. Lots of Zillow searches. If the home is pre-wired, they'll probably advertise it as such in the listing. I think the sweet spot (in terms of value) is finding a property that is eligible but hasn't had an install yet. In our case that meant eye-balling the neighborhood maps at a house-by-house level.
To find similar networks in other parts of the US I would start with Zillow searches (for "fiber") or Google searches for state + fiber + rollout, state + co-op + fiber, or state + co-op + Calix. Calix is a popular FTTH equipment vendor. You could also check their (or other vendors) press releases, which they usually issue when they partner with a new co-op. See http://www.ftthcouncil.org/OurMembers
I wish there were a friendlier UX for this. Our search lasted about 2 months. If anyone is interested in my area, email me and I should be able to help by finding properties before they hit MLS, qualifying addresses with the contacts I've made at the service provider/installers, and of course just driving around. It would be fantastic to build a hacker community here.
