Yup, that's correct, though the old library in my repo still works and is used by some folks, maintenance of SoCo is handled by a group of very talented and friendly developers under https://github.com/SoCo/SoCo
It looks like the author used SoCo for the Raspberry Pi project mentioned at the bottom of the article.
Carvoyant [1] makes a small device that plugs into your car's OBD2 port, and exposes the data through an API. It's somewhat similar to Automatic [2], but available now and has an API. I've got one in my car, but haven't had a chance to play around with the API yet.
Not sure how important it is for others, but I was surprised by the lengthy wait time to form an LLC in California. I filed for formation at the beginning of February and it still has not gone through. If you take a look at http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/be/processing-times.htm you'll see there is an almost two month wait time for new formations. This prevents me from opening up a business bank account and cashing checks, amongst other things.
Quick note of terminology: LLC is a limited liability "company", but not a corporation. "Incorporation" implies forming a C or S corp, etc. Corporations can issue shares, be taxed as their own entities etc. Quite a bit more paperwork and expense required, but this is what you'd want for venture funding. (IANAL, but this is from my experience).
Out of curiosity, how much of a Finder's Fee do you typically offer on FlightFox? Would you use it for shorter trips, say LA to SF, or does it really only become worth it on longer, more complicated trips?
FlightFox was really an eye opener for me when I learned about that 6-continents trip that some agent had planned for $1730 (originally linked off HN)... I basically realized these guys have so many tricks up their sleeves that the more flexibility/variables you introduce the wittier they can get with their planning...
So yea, with simpler itinerary they probably have less wiggle room to find some loophole or deal, but my hunch (haven't tried it yet) is that if I said "I want to go to LA sometime in June" that the time flexibility would be enough to give them room to find a great deal. I'm sure one of them could comment more on this.
As far as finder fee I just used the default one since I never used the site and our trip was fairly simple, but would likely adjust based on how complex I felt the trip planning would be...
The biggest annoyance of FF is you have to carefully follow directions to book but the potential savings is worth it.
One of the two authors of the post (Robert Krulwich) is also a co-host on a fantastic podcast called Radiolab. Their most recent episode is about this topic and they tell the story of a Japanese man that was in the blast radius at Hiroshima, went home to Nagasaki, injured, and was caught in the second explosion as well!
