Very Uncreative, I know, considering my department's name is DOVA, the department of visual art.
I'm not sure what is going on. I took the liberty of contacting some people last night in a panic, including the EFF and a friendly acquaintance who formerly did systems work and now does Patent Law in New York, among other things. As well as someone here to see if we can port parts of this. People are still making changes though. I have no idea what is going on.
I'm gonna have to talk to my adviser too. Not fun, because I can't say I am in full control of this Facebook profile. The only similar case was WikipediaArt, and that was deleted by Wikipedia among a storm of controversy over the meaning of art on the internet and place on the internet.
The vast majority of preferred artists mentioned here, are from the early half of the last century. Does this say something about HN'ers understanding and awareness of contemporary art?
It's a curious contrast with how most people reading HN are working at the absolute cutting edge of 21st century technology. Curiously, art has always been driven by advances in modern technology; whether that be in metal casting, developments in pigments and dyes and of course, the invention of the lens.
"Does this say something about HN'ers understanding and awareness of contemporary art?"
I find it hard to keep on top of, and experience, contemporary art. Unlike music, where it's fairly easy to get exposed to something, much contemporary visual art requires a physical presence to appreciate.
I also don't know many good sources to follow contemporary art. There are some printed mags I browse through at B&N or Borders, but that's pretty haphazard. (The art galleries are one of the things I miss most about New York City. There are occasional good showings in the Phoenix area, but hardly on par with places like NYC or L.A.)
Are there good Web sites for keep abreast of contemporary art?
I agree completely with this...no idea what's going on here, but it intrigued me enough to spend time poking about trying to find out, and actually come back to this thread later to see if anyone could enlighten me. Really like the design, you've obviously got something, I just can't work out what it is, which from your side, is a problem.
Hey movix, just saw your question today (haven't figure out at the time how to track my post back).Could the answer to hyyypr help you? it's great you like the design. feel free to ask any specific question, if there's something not clear, I'll do my best to make it a bit clearer. In "one" word, it's an aggregator for sites and blogs as well as podcasts and the feeds are update in nearly realtime, add some social features to it and that's it. A User case could be for a google employee to keep in touch with his company news, it's very easy to do that by checking the google category with all the google blogs listed there, no need to fire up your desktop feedreader all the time, or login somewhere, just go get what you are looking for, and if you miss the news from several days before, click on the "more" option and you can catch up with that stuff and share it to twitter with one click.
It's really, really difficult to read because of the font sizes/layout/design. I couldn't get past that so I clicked out. Looks like a useful idea though. Maybe hire a designer?
I agree with this poster - it looks great, like something I'd want to use, but I read the whole landing page and still didn't know what I could use it for.
Wow, that's bad! Thanks for the feedback. I was pretty focused on making the home page short and to the point. Guess it could use a bit of rework though. Good comments. :)
Surf, learn and practice bushcraft techniques, daydream about owning a campervan for kids/bikes/surboards, take photographs of clouds, go fishing but never catch anything.
