People don't understand intelligence

In the past 6 months I've been struggling with a lot of anxiety and OCD. I've read 4 of his books. He's great.

If it's discouragement you want to avoid, it's likely that it's discouragement you need. You may need to accept that whatever ideal you're seeking doesn't exist. This discouragement may hurt at first, but it will open you up to a new world of possibility.

I don't think I need discouragement.

The problem is almost assuredly not with these men, but with your perfectionism. Or trauma. Or distorted beliefs about relationships. You need to dig into your beliefs about relationships and uncover where your distortions lie.

This is the exact thing that happened to remote work.

It's not about workers actually becoming more powerful. It's about them more frequently exercising it.

Musk believed he needed to compel people back into the office to get what he wanted. These employees believed it was worth it to speak out. Both parties were capable of understanding the consequences of their speech. And none of those consequences were unethical or or even disproportionate to their cause. I'm not sure there's even anything to talk about here. There's no right or wrong to people's preferences for their workers' jobsite presence. And there's no right or wrong to public disagreement. In fact, this is a public market disagreement that will happen for years to come.

I wish I could use Camo. But my company doesn't allow third party software without admin approval. Makes the process of installing Camo substantially more obnoxious.

People can do harmful actions unknowingly. There's not much use labeling any inproper action as "asshole." Most of the time people are just making honest mistakes where they didn't adequately consider all the outcomes. You've either got to stomach honest mistakes, or implement rules that prevent them from ever happening. People aren't magically born with the ability to "not do anything an asshole might do"

Incompetence and malice have the same result.

The Restaurant manager may have intended to streamline a process by leaving the tray of chicken out for 4 hours instead of in the walk in. I don’t care - the customers will get sick from contamination.

The movie theatre manager may block an emergency egress because gangs of teenagers are letting their friends in for free and he doesn’t have the budget to station an employee there. I don’t care - dying in a fire or stampede isn’t for me.

Brakes are what allows cars to go fast. I’d rather have some assurance that there’s a baseline level of competence than to try to figure out whether some asshole will disregard my safety or be unqualified to make the decisions they are making.
