Thanks for the shout out! Open Bank Project is an open source API solution for banks. We have a catalogue of 130 standard pre-built banking APIs & 6000 developers worldwide using our interfaces. Also, PSD2 is the hook. There are many more APIs bank can open up which are outside the scope of PSD2.
In any case, Open Banking is definitely a global trend now, there are similar regulation efforts in the making in Australia, Singapore & South Korea.
Feel free to ask, if you have any question on this topic
We, at the Open Bank Project, could do with some help. We are an open source API for banks https://github.com/OpenBankProject - ping me if you want to get involved
The report sets out a framework rather than a specification at this point. It talks about a phased approach starting with open data (e.g. branches, products) then transaction history and then write (e.g. payment) options. PSD2 from the EU might well influence the operations supported first.
I did a start-up in Algeria few years ago. Didn't work great but was a very good experience. Big issue is red tape, too much of it as long as we'd have the same bureaucracy I think things would move slowly.
One thing I'm interested in now is social entrepreneurship. I believe tech startup solving societal challenges would have it easier and would face less red tape. Proving my assumption while I'm writing. I'll keep you posted. Perhaps a good idea for a next post :-)
Nice idea and very neat execution. I like the self-destruct aspect which would help be get excited if you offer them something(think couponing..etc). Personnally I can see myself using it when tweating something very particular and contextual (i.e. agenda of a conference which updates automatically when we progress during the day)
