But honestly the vast majority of the knowledge transfer is happening through more legitimate means. Even the famous Stanford machine learning professor Andrew Ng got poached by Baidu.
I would be concerned about this concept being widened beyond nuclear energy research.
as an example computer ubiquity and internet connectivity allow 4th/5th gen warfar to exist. If encryption or miniturization, or transmission media were considered subject to born secret doctrine that could make things very difficult and somewhat partisan.
Legally, until someone properly tests that in court, then it is not even really law yet. Also, as a legal conceit, it doesn't continue to apply to people after they emigrate from the US.
I feel also, that you can't really go around telling people that they are banned from emigrating due to what they know, unless you also have a labyrinth containing a minotaur, fed with captured foreign citizens.
Although, I have to say, it would not greatly surprise me by this point to learn that this was in fact the case.
when a western scientist goes to work in China, the nutters are angry because of "loss"
if an easter scientist comes to work in US, the nutters are angry because of "loss"
it's just in-group out-group identity politics bullshit...
just like how in times of slavery interracial marriages were a big no-no because it blurs the agreed-upon line of class separation ("which class does the mixed child belong in?" the biological expression of a mixed child [that we are fundamentally the same] contradicts the ideological expression [that we are fundamentally different]) so today any form of mingling is viewed as a threat to warmongers (who want to maintain a simple thus virally contagious worldview)...
Would be my first association as well, from things like RC cars and RC planes. Doesn't really make sense in this context, though (but run commands sounds a little bit of as well; something like configuration commands would've sounded better in my opinion).
In my case it's not about uncertainty. I am rich, I've got cash, I've assets. I can buy whatever I want, I can use and consume any forbidden drug.
They sell me fake world. Then my fake world breaks like a shattered mirror and suddenly I am helpless, feeling pain, depressed, turning towards drugs.
Why I am so unhappy with my life? Because I am not born with exceptionally good looks, I see my girlfriend chasing guy who looks better than me but isn't as successful as me? Should I be happy about it? The girls who come for me, want resources - they fake love well. Suddenly, love disappears if I stop paying bills.
As a man with means, I can choose to take mind altering drug and numb myself down but I choose to handle psychological pain through philosophy and self realization.
I want to accept things as they are. I don't feel wronged, betrayed, I don't hold grudge towards anyone. I accepted the fact, what people are doing around me are doing whatever they want to do, whatever they feel serves their interest. This way of thinking can't be toxic.
The ones I thought I loved, cheated on me with prisoner (life destroyed but looks big and dangerous), another cheated with some banker (huge debts but exceptionally good looks)
Women are people too, and just as men many of them can have lousy characters. I know that it's easy to say, but you should be more aware and discerning about who you associate yourself with. Before those girls cheated on you, there were probably some clues that they aren't the most wholesome persons in the world.
For example, I'm sure as hell that if I were a woman, I wouldn't date Steve Jobs. He had tons of signs of a terrible person, and even when speaking in terms of my own self-interest I would have no guarantee that he wouldn't cheat on me or dump me at his earliest convenience.
Here's a certainly not contemplative answer which would suit HN best:
If money is no problem and you've correctly narrowed your problems down to your looks (here's where you might be wrong), plastic surgery is very effective.
> can't really operate a competing company off of the contents of one person's brain. You need a documented body of knowledge that the whole company can refer to, with meta-information including how the research was undertaken
Some will disagree because there exist people who can memorize everything.
IANAL, but I assume that if someone actually memorized a confidential document, rewrote it from memory, and showed it to people at another company, it would be equivalent to just walking out the door with the physical document in the eyes of the law. judges tend not to be amused by these kinds of logical gymnastics.
I'd like to think, we humans can mold our societies based on ideals such as fairness, equality of opportunity etc... even if these don't exist in nature.
It's amazing how they took calculated risk and ended up with net gains and avoided any criminal charges.
Do you need a really high IQ to think way? Is one person able to make such strategy or do you need a group of high IQ people to pull off something like this?
There is a guy I met in gym who was asking me why I take protein shakes when they are so expensive.
He told me he takes some protein injected into bloodstream which is more effective and produces better results than fake optimum nutrition protein I get from Amazon.
So I asked him to show that protein, guess what, it was anabolic steroids. Sure did it produce amazing results and he thinks side effects are because Rahu in his Kundali.
