This might be a response to the functional repeal of the CHIPS act.

Congressional appropriations don't matter when the president can fire staff and stop payments.

The USA used to fight proxy vs proxy against Russia. Now we have a chance for us to fight through a proxy against Russia itself. This is a huge geopolitical opportunity to diminish or even destroy an enemy with low risk to the US itself.

The whole liberal-democratic world should be all-in on Ukraine assistance.

Instead, Trump just made it clear that the optimal time for PRC v ROC round 2 is within the next 3 year 10 months.

They had this "huge opportunity" for last 4 years.

Curious - what's your crypto exposure?

I'm starting to diversify into it as a hedge against the collapse of the US dollar. Definitely not all-in though.

I'm anti-fasicist today, but I wonder if I'd be a Muskovite had TradeHill not kept 'my' bitcoins when it closed in the early 2010s.

I've kept a close eye on the crypto world since 2010 or so. I find it fascinating how it continues to draw in rubes.

The only cryptocurrency I've ever personally "owned" was acquired when Roger Ver tipped me a very small amount of bitcoin because when he asked a very stupid question on Reddit and I anonymously answered. I didn't do anything with it.

The question was about gambling. He pretty much asked, "Can't I just put money both sides of the bet and come out on top regardless of outcome?" This anecdote also aligns to "people who are all-in on crypto might lack critical thinking skills."

Is Dogecoin really a 'memecoin'? Is Musk involved in any way?

My understanding is that it's from the original doge meme wave and was responsible for the dogeification of Musk.

It seems like a FOSS community project that started as a meme and snowballed into a 2nd tier coin. It doesnt smell very musky to me.

Musk has used Dogecoin as the vehicle of a pump and dump before, where he has promoted the coin and at one point made Tesla accept it for payments.

After that he lost interest (the dump part).

Lately I've been working on strategies to use software in unusual enough ways that I'm essentially off the radar of, well, anyone looking. The dark forest approach to the internet.

To avoid interacting with the web directly, I'm thinking of running some AI software in a container on a home server that would be a translation layer between me and the real web. All webpages would be converted to a simple, and secure, format. Gopher, gemini, asciidoc, or maybe just static html.

Is that a tractable problem with modern AI tools?

The only way to win is not to play, but I'd like to have my cake and eat it too.

The more unique your habits, the easier to fingerprint. That said, with those habits, you may be a less attractive audience.

Icecat is the GNU build of the open-source base of Firefox. I think that's the best bet until Ladybird is ready for daily diving.

Fennec on Android.

They're making a rational judgement based on factual information about current events.

The authoritarian coup currently happening in the US is real. Do not let your conditioning cause you to view it a conspiracy theory.

Is there a word to describe feeling befuddled and terrified at the same time?

Probably because all the competent employees reported the first email as phishing. The only box it didn't check was asking the employee to buy and Amazon gift card.
