I know you’re downvoted but every time I read a story like this I get the feeling it’s mostly fiction.

Embellished, maybe, but parts of it ring true. I know from bitter experience that confronting a neighbour about noise rarely works. They can often be drunk or aggressive.

Before there was social media there was click bait headlines from supposedly reputable news agencies.

Social media gave people easy ways to engage and share. And it turns out what people engage with and share is click bait/rage bait.

So maybe not technically inherent but a natural consequence of creating networks for viral sharing of content.

Even before that we had "sweeps week" in broadcasting. This was the period of time where the big networks pushed out their biggest shows, miniseries and end of season episodes. This would lead into the nightly news which would also put together an extended expose on a headline-grabbing story. These stories would be heavily advertised during the prime time shows and would often be told over a period of nights. All of this was in service for high ratings that could be used to increase advertising rates.

So yes, all of this has happened before and will continue to happen as long as we live in a capitalist society.

Yes, such tactics have existed forever.

But the scale and speed are much different. Which is why social media is not "just more of the same".

I’m fairly certain it’s Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty

FYI, 418 is the HTTP status code that means the server is a teapot.

Technically a HTTCPCP status code I think?

HTCPCP. Btw, the RFC is buggy. I once used it as a comprehension test for first round interviews, and had to be careful to avoid the bugs.

Fun fact: Krusty now owned by Disney.

It answers the question posed. Unless you think only morons have opinions that differ from yours.

Moronic opinions are still moronic and should be called out as such. Making America more crypto friendly by pardoning fraudsters is an objectively stupid take.

The train of thought is 1. The economy is making me nervous. 2. You're right to be nervous. 3. Then what are your short positions, since you're so smart?

Non-sequitur.

I actually use the em dash. I learned it from Butterick’s practical typography years ago.

Maybe it wasn't the math, but the abuse.

Yeah… but if you had to rip heads off of demons in your day job you might not feel that way.

If you had to be factorio engineer in real life you also wouldn't like it, so I don't understand this comparison. Games are games, life is life.
