>every single team is distributed. Unfortunately this isn't true. Amazon already forced all teams to co-locate, calling it RTT (return to team). So majority of teams are in the same location/building.

Nope, most teams still have at least a few members in a different time zone than the rest of the team. They all go to an Amazon office, just not the same one.

> already forced all teams to co-locate, calling it RTT (return to team).

Not true. I work at amazon.

> Although the problem is with the hood latch, as with many Tesla safety recalls, the problem can be fixed with an over-the-air software patch. The new software is able to detect if the hood is open and, if so, will display a warning to the driver to alert them to stop their vehicle and secure the hood.

So the OTA update doesn't fix the problem, just gives passengers a warning to stop and close the hood.

But does this mean they are not actually fixing the hood latches themselves? I don't think a warning will be very useful if the hood opens up while someone is driving down a freeway at 80 mph.

Seems to be specifically the Dutch entity. I wonder how this would affect their USA business, since i see VanMoof bikes pretty often in Seattle

US entity was probably a subsidiary of the Dutch BV

In this context (the blog post) and the reason firecracker was created, was to isolate workloads.

And if youre running untrusted code, then using a virtualized environment is the easiest (id even say best) way to go about it.

I'm curious what the terms of usage would be, since eventually people will figure out how to block all the ads one way or another.

Also after having seen a few cheap Walmart tvs, some with very intrusive ads I think there might be a market for this

> people will figure out how to block all the ads one way or another.

I’m not so convinced about this. Locked down hardware and software, not like you can download a browser plug-in.

In before anyone says “PiHole”: anyone actually doing that would be a rounding error in usage.

They make you send it back, or if you tamper with it, charge you two grand.

You mean like covering the lower screen with some black duct tape?

I imagine at some point they'll update the TVs so that the lower screen is required to use the TV (like for changing settings or something), and people will make sliding/pivoting physical ad blockers for the second screen.

True, you could put the whole navigation system down there. I'm sure they've already thought of all of this.

I'm curious if you'll be able to turn the damn thing off or prevent it from turning itself on.

Not really. According to the CEO's tweets the payroll funds are stuck in SVB, but Rippling is using their own funds/collateral to fund the payroll.

What would be an ideal viewer to open these huge satellite images? I'm assuming everyone that comes with Windows will just hang

SkyFi Earth Observation Specialist here - the program most suited for viewing imagery like this, is specialised geospatial information system (GIS) software. There is a quite nice open source software called QGIS. However, beware - it is not the most user friendly experience, and we are working on creating a video tutorial, to help first time users visualise the data and start doing analysis.

Windows photo viewer should be fine so long as you have enough RAM.

But fastmail is based in Australia, which means they can't be trusted for privacy/encryption following the The Assistance and Access Act/Anti-Encryption act.

Encrypted email just isn’t a thing. The minute you send a message to someone else it’s out in the wild.

This. Get over it. Your email is not private or anonymous and never will be. Once you accept that, ProtonMail's value proposition is meaningless. ProtonMail must answer to subpoenas by handing over stored emails and IP addresses, just like everyone else. Here's one example:

From what I've seen Volvo has it isn't like Apple Carplay or Android Auto. Rather it's a self contained android device

Correct. Poorly named, but Android Automotive is the equivalent of the iDrive software that runs in the BMW center panel (in the absence of any other user device)...CarPlay or Android Auto could still overlay that assuming the carmaker supports it.

Yes, but Volvo/Polestar have just started the OTAs to add CarPlay support.
