Another option for tabletop games is printing with The Game Crafter: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/

I'm working on another option for some of these things on my platform, Tosslet: https://tosslet.com

Would love some feedback on if you think it would help solve communications from: 1) PTA -> resident 2) Food Trucks -> nearby people

Your main non-social-media competitor here is probably going to be https://www.remind.com/, and I really can't see you winning, especially when you charge as much as you do. (I initially misread your pricing, but $0.60 is still kind of a lot.)

It's a bit like Tosslet. https://www.tosslet.com/

Edit: But with Tosslet you don't need to (get to?) have an account to see (catch) messages or provide any other information (e.g. email). We have a privacy-first focus and don't require or allow the use of your actual location (gps).

Disclaimer: I'm the developer of Tosslet

I like your monetization strategy and how it combats spam!

Thanks!

To the newly created [dead] account that I can't respond to, you are correct that typical usage would be to download the app, however, there is a Start Exploring webpage that you can search on to just see messages without the app: https://www.tosslet.com/Home/StartExploring

Definitely interested in security and also the why behind when/where networks are setup. How is good too, but the why is bypassed in a lot of materials I've read of late.

Good information, thanks for the insight as someone looking to learn.

When applying is the login the same as the regular YC login or do I need to create a new account?

Not tied to Hacker News id at the moment. Need to create a new account.

Thanks! Will do.

Xamarin

I have literally had a mobile team threaten to quit if we adopted Xamarin after they built a small app in it lol.

Xamarin can be pretty tough if you don't have a good appreciation of Xcode, iOS and UWP development and tooling, and underlying differences.

Oh, they understood it, top tier mobile devs, they just thought it was trash. Drastically preferred to do native. I went to bat for them, and we shipped a beautiful app on time.

This is great! Thanks.

Would it be possible to break down the US startups by state? It'd be great to connect with local people, if possible.

Yeah, we talked about it. We'll probably include it in a future iteration

If you do US States, could you do Canadian provinces as well?

I'm not an expert in either of these areas (VR or depression), but after reading this I began to wonder if virtual reality could somehow provide a solution or at least mitigate the effects of a jet lagged traveler and/or a person suffering from depression by 'normalizing' their circadian rhythm.

Salmon from frozen to perfectly cooked.

In this interview, I particularly enjoyed hearing the descriptions of a network, marketplace, and platform; as well as the questions founders of each should be considering when building product and growing a user base. I haven't figured out how this effects the application I'm working on yet, but I think it should help me hone into some possibilities...and likely more questions. (e.g. Am I building a marketplace or a hybrid marketplace/network?)

Focusing on generating demand and retention of current users while growing is a key piece that I need to keep repeating to myself. Thank you for your insights Anu and thank you to Craig for doing these interviews with the YC partners.
