Maybe because quality doesn't matter to me as much?
And, movies this old in 4k HDR, that's a thing? I can understand the 4k part, that at least can be done by scanning the original film at a higher resolution, but HDR? Doesn't it need to be shot in HDR to begin with?
> The average person is simply unable to evaluate competence, especially from news clips and "debates". The median voter is not a highly competitive white collar knowledge worker with a background in STEM necessary to evaluate complex topics with objectivity. Instead its the fry cook, the retail worker, the warehouse stocker, blue collar tradesman, liberal arts graduate, etc.
This is silly. A twitter storm is a pretty well defined, public event. Do you seriously think it would be common to post racist stuff on the internet, and then organise a permanent campaign against yourself, in order to become un-fireable for causes that are work related? A company that wants to fire you for your poor performance can do so, and if you sue them it's not going to be hard for them to prove they have a legitimate cause which has nothing to do with your self-organised mobbing campaigns.
Well, if I was black I'd probably like to know if my psychiatrist associated with HBD cranks. Or if I was a woman, I'd want to know if my psychiatrist wrote apologia for incels. And that's just two examples of the countless absurd hot takes hes had over the years.
Siskind dug his own grave here, and the NYT has done his patients a huge service.
Shorting serves a valuable purpose. It removes capital from the hands of people stupid enough to believe fraudsters, and reallocates it to people who dont. The whole purpose of markets is to facilitate the efficient allocation of capital, and shorting is clearly an important part of that.
> 5) [It's a wild west...] Respectfully, this is an unkind or perhaps bigoted statement. I have many friends in crypto who are thoughtful, kind people. They think deeply about the ethical implications of the systems we're building. The same is true of many leaders in the space.
Its undeniable that the proportion of criminals among cryptocurrency enthusiasts is far higher than in the population at large. I don't see how its unkind or bigoted to point that out.
> That leads me to the question: can anyone here recommend a good Indian author from the same era as Kipling? (Yes I know Kipling was born in India).
While not a direct answer to your question, I think The Location of Culture by Homi Bhabha is relevant in the sense that it addresses why your question is difficult (perhaps impossible) to answer.
I suppose rather than asking for a “good” author (subjective, for example I’ve met an Oxbridge English Literature graduate who thought Shakespeare was overrated), I should have asked for a “famous” author from the same era.
The sort of author whose works a current-day Indian politician would have on their shelves, or perhaps quote from, to signal how cultured they are — in the same sort of way UK PM Johnson tried to show how cultured he was by quoting Kipling.
