> the durian would still probably have the highest grapple factor among Southeast Asia’s endemic fruits. Thai exports of the fruit are mostly destined for China, where consumers tend to be more willing to work for their meals.

Actually, Durain is not that hard to process, a chopstick or a screwdriver can do the job easily, can't be harder than opening a whole Jamón.

> I'm guessing because they can't effectively monitor information on the platform.

I not sure about this. Usually, they won't let a social platform operate without a self-censoring team, I guess they will force gaming platforms to do the same.

One thing I really don't like about minimalists is they boast too much about the numbers of different items they own. Not all wears are made by the fast fashion industry as a result of consumerism. I have bike wear, climbing wear and running wears but I use them interchangeably and try to buy less because I'm relatively poor. IMO minimalists should expand their hobbies (which are rarely low-cost so they will try to optimize their spendings) rather than confine themselves in the established social norms.

There were no new cases in China except Wuhan and HongKong a week ago, how's that possible if they weren't covering up?

Why is this covering up?

Firstly there isn't one case confirmed in HongKong yet.

Secondly, the virus could take up to 2 weeks to start showing symptoms and it is only until recently the method to detect this virus efficiently had been discovered.

This is a new virus, and its behavior takes time to understand.

I agree this is a new virus we know little about, but did you know folks in Wuhan were still gathering in crowds without any precautions [2], and ppl got caught spreading so-called fake news of this virus?

> how made fun of China was in past South Park episodes

Well, stereotypes of Chinese aren't eloquent enough to piss off the CCP. As a mainlander, Band in China is a spot-on satire about China under Xi's ruling (apart from the background music), and every threat to the legitimacy of the authority would be quenched while making fun of Chinese ppl is by no means harmful.

No one calls it HongKongese b/c it is not that different, you're exaggerating. Not all people in Guangzhou can speak Cantonese and those who can, even if they are native speakers, might not accent-savvy enough to tell an HKer if he/she tries to avoid some unique phases.

You know the main purpose of nationalism in China is to justify goverment decrees right? They don't hate other countries by heart spontaneously, not like those in the US.

Even better, there are "PD 诱骗头" for Surfaces, ThinkPads and other laptops using proprietary DC ports. Try searching "PD 诱骗头" + "<your laptop's brand>" in alibaba/taobao.

> I've come to believe that most governments are inept when it comes to the management, security and general quality of their software.

They are very well aware of it, so they do outsourcing to pro-CCP companies, e.g. Hikvision, Face++.

More probably for the impending 30th anniversary of 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.

Were there protests in previous notable anniversaries?

Sadly the main commemorative events only take place in Hong Kong and Taiwan(Macau is not included), but you know the consequence of going against totalitarian government right?.

And you miss the whole point of censorship. It's about making people reluctant to remembering it.

No, not really any protests.

But there were all sorts of web shutdowns leading up to previous anniversaries.

Any attempt at any kind of protest in China is slammed on very swiftly. There have been attempts in the past eg by Falun Gong supporters at Tiananmen Square, but it’s usually all over in minutes as the area is heavily monitored. There is no real independent media, they all have embedded censors, so even when there is a protest it doesn’t get covered. What protests do occur are usually over local issues and foreign media occasionally manage to piece together the story after the fact.
